My girlfriend always uses this expression when she wants to know what I am thinking... what is the closest word in english for this expression?

Are you sure it's not 'mande' from the verb 'to send'? It's used a lot in Ecuador like we use 'what?' to prompt someone to say what's on their mind or repeat what they had just said.

I hear¿mande?all day long at work. I'm known for being facetious, and since it sounds like the english word Monday so I often reply,

Sí, esta lunes o No, esta martes......etc. wink

It means "world".... in French! But Kiwi is probably right; I have heard Salvadorans and Mexicans ask ¿Mande? too.
