Which is the best way to say that a thief broke into a house?

I've seen allanar used also entrar a robar, but then there's irrumpir and interrumpir can they be used this way?

Dakie: decir "irrumpió dentro" es incorrecto - es un pleonasmo-, ya que irrumpir es entrar (violentamente en un lugar) - Agora, Jul 11, 2011

MC, the most common at least in Mexico is "invadir." "Entrar por la fuerza," "entrar a la fuerza," and "entrar ilegalmente" are also used.

We, attorneys ( in Mexico) use "irrumpir" o "allanar" as a legal term for what you call in English "breaking and entering".

"Un ladrón irrumpió en la casa" or "Un ladrón allanó la morada".

You will also hear these words or phrases in ordinary speech and in the news media.

Nicole, In my days as a Detective we used to say, "Cometió un allanamiento de morada." He did a house break, B&E etc. Home ivasion is a different topic, somone must be at home for that.
