How do I put in the accents without using the mouse?

Question

When I am doing recall it takes alot of time to find the vowel with the mouse, click on it and then continue typing. Is there an easier and faster way to add the accents to the words? I noticed at the left top corner of my keyboard is a key with tha wavy thing on it, but I don't know how to type that thing and the letter at the same time. And where would the other accent be, because the other thing on that key goes the wrong way.
