What does 'batalla' mean in South American Spanish?

Morning,

I wondered if any of you could help me. Does 'batalla' have a different meaning in South American Spanish? Here is the sentence it is in:

La concurrencia femenina, ganada por la sugestión del campo de batalla presente, oía estremecida. Las chicas nerviosas prestaban sin querer inquieto oído a la voz de los marineros en proa.

(The people are on a ship travelling from America to Europe.)

Many Thanks

C

Campo de batalla means battlefield in South America, just like everywhere else.

It is not a "South American" vs "Spain" Spanish difference; it is just a battle, whether in the literal sense, or in a metaphor.
