I asked before in the forum about the use of para in paraguas.I was on a prefix sight.The site said para used as a prefix in paraguas means "for water"A protection to be used for water"for rain"Makes sense to me..Dave

I recall mentioning in that thread that Spanish has several words like that including parasol (for sun), parabrisas (for wind) and parachoques (bumpers for collisions). paracaídas (for falls) Did you have some specific question about the prefix?

Find a Spanish dictionary and start at para.... and see what you can find.
