Pick on him- lo molestan?

I am trying to translate the following: He is sad because people pick on him. But I am having difficulties picking on the right words to translate "pick on him".
El está triste porque la gente lo molestan o se meten con el.

"Lo mosestan" is definitely not right, as it means that "people bother him" in the sense that, he doesn't like people!
You can say "lo traten mal", they treat him badly (o lo trate mal la gente).
Lo intimida la gente.
Lo abusa la gente.
Lo maltrata la gente.
These are all ways to say people pick pick on him, but there is probably a more idiomatic form as well.
