Criar

to breed, to rear; to grow; to bring up

My Example

Everyone knows that I love dogs. Therefore, it makes me angry when I see puppy mills that breed puppies in bad conditions and then sell them only for money.

(yes, I used puppy factories for puppy mills….hopefully this is close…)

Qué triste, Chris . . . . :( - Ingeteacher, Jul 6, 2011
jejeej - Thanks Lovely...and yes, very very sad Inge.... :( - 001a2987, Jul 6, 2011
That is sad, always know your breeder before buying a dog. - Yeser007, Jul 6, 2011
Heartbreaking. PS I don't understand the construction "me de enojado". Is "me de" a common way to express a change in one's mood? - S1r_Wakka, Jul 6, 2011
me da....da is that it gives me....so...me da = it gives me...for example, me da risa - it gives me a rise (makes me laugh), me de hambre - it makes me hungry... :) - 001a2987, Jul 6, 2011
I, m with you on this one Chris. - jennyo45, Jul 6, 2011
Thanks Chris. Makes a lot more sense with 'da' instead of 'de' :) Typos in Spanish still confuse me :( - S1r_Wakka, Jul 6, 2011
jjaaja Sr Wakka....I didn't even realize I made the typo...lol....gracias!! - 001a2987, Jul 6, 2011
well, didn't work very well, but good for you for trying, jeje - 00494d19, Jul 6, 2011
:) - 001a2987, Jul 6, 2011

Me gusta criar arbustos y hierbas de esquejes y regálarselos a mis amigos.

I like to grow bushes and herbs from cuttings and give them to my friends.

excelent job actually, stadt, great - 00494d19, Jul 6, 2011
I tried to stay a little more with what I know this time, but wanted to be sure I was correct in gusta, not gustan, and that I got the "se" correct as the "redundant" indirect object. - Stadt, Jul 6, 2011
"Me gusta criar y regalar" is what I mean; I would say "Me gustan los arbustos y los hierbas" of course. - Stadt, Jul 6, 2011
Muy bien!! :) - 001a2987, Jul 6, 2011

Sometimes it seems like it wasn't a good idea to raise a puppy and you wish you would have bought a slightly elder one which already knows it can't do things like this . . . .

Thanks a lot, Chris! At least you could understand what I meant, so I'm happy . . . . . :) - Ingeteacher, Jul 6, 2011
Knowing that my sentence will be corrected obviously makes me reckless and I try to make my sentences more complicated. I hope you don't mind to correct me, Chris! - Ingeteacher, Jul 6, 2011
I believe "like" is optional here and you needed only to add "it was" and in your comment-"correcting" instead of "to correct".....:) - Yeser007, Jul 6, 2011
I have noted your remarks, Gary. So helpful, thanks a lot! :) - Ingeteacher, Jul 6, 2011
No problem Inge, I'm definitely happy to help - that's how we learn!! :) - 001a2987, Jul 6, 2011

Why the beginning A? - 0074b507, Jul 6, 2011
Thanks Q, I thought it was necessary, I just don't get the correct use of "a" . - Yeser007, Jul 6, 2011
criaron a ser - 00494d19, Jul 6, 2011
Does the absence of a correction on the initial "a" mean that it is correct or that Quentin's correction is valid but not commented on (My understanding is to use a personal "a" for objects, but not subjects). - Stadt, Jul 6, 2011

One of the things that differentiate mammals from other animals (reptiles, amphibians, birds) is that mammals breast-feed them with milk.
