Need sentence help {idiom maybe?}

Question

I put the following sentence in "word of the day game" but I had a feeling it was wrong and deanski confirmed but I still think it is wrong.

¡Pobrecito!, mi corazón sale a ti.

corrected by Deanski: ¡Pobrecito!, mi corazón está contigo.

Poor baby! My heart goes out to you.

This is used in English as follows...your best friend has just received news that she has cancer and you feel such pain and sympathy for her that you make the above statement from the bottom of your heart. I do not know how to express the same feelings in spanish.

¡Pobrecito!, mi corazón sale a ti.

I wouldn't have figured out what you meant by that. The only interpretation of that sentence is "My heart takes after you" (= it behaves the way you do)

Some suggestions for this sentence in your cancer situation:

Te acompaño en el sentimiento.

Lo siento de corazón.
