Me gusta bailar = I like to dance

Don't try to translate dancing, it doesn't work in Spanish. Use the infinitive after "me gusta" when you want to describe something you like doing. smile

Me gusta dormir. Me gusta beber jugo de naranja. Me gusta aprender español.

me gusta bailo

What you have said here is "I like I dance."

I like dancing ...... Me gusta bailar.

English gerunds are used as infinitives in Spanish

Use the infinitive after "me gusta" when you want to describe something you like doing.

It's in no way restricted to occurring after "gustar" the only verb form that can function as a noun in Spanish is the infinitive (in English you usually have a choice between the infinitive and the gerund).
