I have a microphone internally on my computer, it is not letting me use it when i get to the speak lesson. Do you have to have a seperate microphone for this? Thanks

Microsoft Windows does have "blankety-blank" security settings which can prevent your microphone from working on this site. Make sure there are no settings coming from either Windows, or any anti-virus or other security/protection program you are using.

But follow Qfreed's post above before you go messing around with the security settings!!

It's most likely in your microphone or sound settings (see Control Panel).

For example, you might have your microphone "muted" in your "sound settings."

Be sure and post again if you haven't solved the problem, and we can do some more troubleshooting. cool smile

No, but the lesson software has to capture your microphone settings. Is your microphone woking on your computer (it's not muted, etc.)? Can you record an audio files? Speak in audio chat, etc.? Depending on your OS you should have somethng akin to Windows Sound features where you can test and configure your microphone settings. Make sure that it is working properly on your computer and then try doing the lessons.

I have a macbook and it works. I don't think you need a separate microphone.

It should be working. Make sure your microphone is set up properly.

If you are using Windows, here is how you do it:

Go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, Recording.

Make sure your internal mic is set up as the default... and make sure the green bars are moving when you speak.

If you are using a Mac... well, sorry, I can't help you. :(
