Keeping up Spanish during the Summer break

Keeping up Spanish during the Summer break

Up here in the north we have the long 'summer' break (in my part of the world usually quite rainy).... so school is out and my next course in Spanish starts in September... time to relax, have fun and forget all my Spanish! (I can't go to a Spanish speaking country until late autumn now).

So what do other people do to keep going? I am finding it really hard because there is no pressure and so many great summer distraction but my course in September will push me and I want to get ready ...

Be interested to hear your ideas....

Pick up a book written in Spanish. Good time to catch up on your reading. Find that church that has a large Spanish congregation. Volunteer in a largely Spanish speaking neighborhood.

I use Rosetta Stone among other resources and study at least an hour every night.

It's my ritual 7pm to 8pm that sometimes lasts until Midnight. LOL

Of course there is SpanishDict... the word of the day games are fun and I've learned a lot being corrected by Lazarus wink

This site has a bunch of free lessons, too:

They have stuff to sell, too... so they'll push it every once in awhile, but not to the point of being annoying. They also have a weekly "Facebook Fiesta Friday" assignment where you can interact with other Spanish learners on Facebook.

I agree with Qfreed that reading is a great way to practice. Google something that you are interested in reading about in Spanish.

Try the websites too link text

I just love Qfreed's idea! Pick up a book written in Spanish. It can be any book, anything you like. It's fun, and you are learning a lot along the way. I personally love reading books. I can read music, and I play the guitar, so I like to listen to Spanish songs. It helps! Getting involved in a Spanish speaking community is another great way to enjoy your free time during the summer.

Don't forget to keep up your Spanish all year long!

I hope this helps smile
