There are so many reasons! First of all, this is the only website I have found where all the resourses are completely free! The amount of resourses here seem endless. The people here are wonderful. I will put it this way, I have completed fourteen lessons here and have learned more Spanish than I did after completing two years of Spanish classes in high school. Seriously, here is a small list:
1.) The video lessons given by Paralee are excellent and very helpful.
2.) The forum is full of friendly people willing to help.
3.) The dictionary is spectacular, especially now that it includes video pronunciation.
4.) The ability to participate in Skype chats with other members is really cool, too.
5.) SD has a phrasebook of commonly used phrases.
6.) The ability to view and practice with flashcards created by other members is nice.
7.) The ever-growing Reference section is packed with useful information.
8.) and ... it is all completely F R E E !!!!!!!!!!!!! (That is $0.00 per month) 
Besides, what other sites out there have Paralee and Heidita? 
Because you can ask a R E A L native Spanish speaker a very difficult question. 
First of all, you will get 4 levels of Spanish [that is 60 lessons] and 2 levels of English [that is 30 lessons] for free. No ka-ching. Free. No dinero. $0. Free.
Also, the forum is amazing. We have so many talented users who are fluent in English and Spanish who are very helpful when a poster has questions. Explanations are clear, thorough, and precise. I honestly can't ask for better answers!
Next, the dictionary has nearly every word you will ever need. ¡Qué fantástico!
The flashcards are the best here. I remember someone saying that there are about 30,000 sets! Come on, I mean, you have to try them! They're great.
The people here are extremely friendly. It truly is like a family here. Our moderators are very caring people who are always available to help.
It's impossible to come and join this website and not learn. I've learned something new everyday since I've been here. I joined exactly 4 weeks ago today and I know much more about Spanish than I did before.
Modern, commonly used phrases can be found in our phrasebook. 7,691 phrases are in our phrasebook, and it grows everyday.
You will be able to talk to native Speakers through Skype chats. What excellent practice that is!
Also, on our "audio threads", you can record your voice and natives can correct your accent.

Not only will you receive accurate information about leaning Spanish here, but sloppy English is also addressed whenever necessary.
And now that you are here, it will be nice to pick up some Tagalog!

Pam, you will most certainly learn more from this site than any other because it has the broadest range of forers giving input along with the fantastic lessons. And as a bonus, people learning English here can also benefit but only if we all use correct capitalization and punctuation.

How many weeks? For me, too many. I have few chances to practice, so I've been counting in months, not in weeks.
You have great motivation to learn Spanish, from what I know from your profile message. If you have friends or other people around you who speak Spanish, you can be very nice to them and let them help you practice. That can make the biggest difference in how long it will take.

SpanishDict is AWESOME! It has a dictionary, phrasebook, threads, reference sections, and chats with native speakers.
I'm leaving out a lot. I still haven't explored yet myself!
As far as other sites, why choose? Have them all, as many as you can find... including SpanishDict (my favorite!)
