Aqui o Acar?

Aqui o Acar?

I have just returned from South America 2 weeks ago and i'm a little confused by the use of aqui o acar (not sure how if this is spelt correct). In Peru and Bolivia my use of aqui was understood as being here, but in Chile it wasn't and i was corrected to acar, although i have since not been able to translate the meaning of this.

thanks

Aquí ....Acá have the same meaning, but there may be certain countries that use one more than the other. In Mexico, for example, both are used with the same frequency.

In Guatemala at least, aquí is used a bit more with the location in the sense of describing where something is (estoy aquí o) whereas acá is used more for verbs of movement, i.e. él va a venir por acá. I've definitely heard people blur the lines, but that seems to be the general dividing line.
