Gold Cup 2011/Copa Oro Discussion

First, I am a US fan.

Here is what I liked most: 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsE5lJh-s5E&feature=player_embedded#at=42 Dos Santos' GOLAZO was absolutely incredible. I still do not know how it was not the top play in Sportscenter.

2) Great crowd added a ton of excitement to the game!

3) Bright spot: Freddy Adu looked really good.

Here is what I liked least: 1) I cannot believe how bad our defense was. We definitely had our share of injuries, but we just let Mexico outrun us. 2) I don't like how Coach Bradley failed to adjust to Mexico's speed. He should have known that even his own son was outrun several times during the game. The US needs a new coach.

What are your likes/dislikes in the Gold Cup? ¿Qué te gusta/detesta más de la Copa Oro?

"Gold Cup" in Spanish is "Copa Dorada." ("do oro" is also a possibility because it means "made of gold" while "dorado/a" means "golden.") - SrCientífico, Jun 27, 2011
Quise decir "de oro" en mi primer comentario. - SrCientífico, Jun 27, 2011

Well I am from the U.S., and of course I must cheer for my country. wink However, I must say, it was extremely exciting to be in Mexico when they won the Gold Cup! It was truly amazing. You could feel (and hear) the excitement in the air!

Lo malo es que no hay partido en casa en el estado de California. Tal vez en el norte de Vermont, donde pueden ver los alces... cool smile

In the local paper there was a big write up in the sports pages about the game. The main focus in the article was that even though the game was on U.S soil,90 % of the fans were cheering for Mexico. The U.S. goalie even proclaimed it was a %*&$ disgrace because the post game celebration was conducted entirely in Spanish! It seems sad that they chose to write it up that way instead of congratulating Mexico. They basically labled the Mexican fans as ingrates.

Well you know what, the writer and all those sourpusses (no that's not a bad word you might be thinkin) are disgraces, and embarassments to the US... - DJ_Huero, Jun 27, 2011

The problem was that once we scored, we would pull back. And you can't do that against a team like Mexico.

Also, DeSantos was burning our defenders.

Well, I am a Mexico fan:

Likes: Courage, willingness, football and our people filling the stadium.

Dislikes: Defence and distraction in the best moments.

It was a great match but I think that USA lost what they alway have: Their attitude.

Well, I'm Mexican and I really liked the way the Mexican football team played on this time. Maybe this is the team that I have liked the most in my whole life. I liked all the Mexican players, not only in the game against the United States, but throughout the Cup. I had never liked so much the Mexican team as on this occasion. I think there are many talented young players, such as Chicharito Hernández, Giovani Dos Santos and Andrés Guardado, to mention a few. I hope that they continue playing in the future as they played in the Cup.

As for the U.S. team, I think they played just as well as our national team, and could easily have won the game. They just had bad luck and lost the chance to score two clear goal chances. I liked Adu. I think he was brilliant.

But I think the USA coach did not know how to take advantage of scoring in the first half. He could have made it much harder for the Mexican team tie the game with that advantage.

The play that ended with the goal of Donovan was brilliant. And the golazazazazo of Giovani dos Santos was a real poem of goal. It is indeed one of the most beautiful goals of the cup. The way he just took away the goalkeeper and put the ball in the corner of the goal in spite of the efforts of the defense were simply amazing.

The thing that I have most liked in the Cup, is the way in which americans are getting involved in soccer, and the way this can be a way to improve the relationships between our two countries.

I did not like that five Mexican soccer players tested positive for the anti-doping test.

I agree Luis, the Mexican team played absolutely great this year. That was my main reason for backing them, they should pure skill and teamwork and they deserved to win this year. I'm still a F C Barcelona kind of guy though. ;-P - DJ_Huero, Jun 27, 2011
