How do things happen? Please keep this family together:)

Question

I have been away for just three days and have come back to a forum full of hatred and unfriendliness.

I am shocked and stunned.

The original post was about the piece of news that gay marriages was now legal in the State of New York. Just as a matter of fact, it has been legal for years in Spain now.

Some agree, others do not agree with gay marriages, what I don't understand is why the discussion could not be held civil.

The question arose if this cannot be discussed on this forum, well of course it can! We can discuss almost anything on this site...even though I had to close a couple of threads on bullfighting which I simply do not allow as this gets so out of hand that I cannot see a way...but gay marriages? I don't see why not.

I have seen several gay members feel offended by some of the approaches, and I would just like to mention that all members are welcome on this forum, whatever their religion or sexual orientation is.

I also saw several members saying I am leaving this site...everybody hates me here, like Lazarus.

I do feel that lazarus is often , hmmmm, as sensitive as a block wall, , but we must all agree on the fact, that this forum would be not the same without him. I cannot count the times I tell people , ask Lazarus, do call Lazarus to this thread, go write lazarus.....in my opinion any members who leaves is a loss for this small family site...but if Lazarus leaves for good, that is a small tragedy

I can only repeat, everybody is welcome to this site, everybody can have his own way of living and all ways of life are welcome and any member is as appreciated as the next and just do me the favour to forget all about last night and keep this family together

We are family, and as such, we should learn not to "tolerate" (which has such a negative connotation) but to accept/embrace everybody, even if we don't agree with some aspect of their lives. After all, what's a "community" that excludes and belittles some people just because they are "different"?

All the noise woke me up and I was just coming over to ask you lot to please be civil, pipe down and let a lizard rest.

Seems like tempers have cooled down, though, so all's well with the world again.

I mean, seriously people: I think some of us may be getting just a wee bit over-sensitive, doncha think? If we start trying to ban every subject that could possibly offend anyone, we will end with such a technical and bland "learning" site that nobody will want to even read it! There's plenty of textbooks like that to be had in the bookstores, if that's what anyone wants.

So I suggest we all open up our minds a bit, crank open the tolerance doors a little, and turn the sense of humor dial way up when we come to the forum!

Well, surely I am not the only one who have been seeing a lot of ironic, repetitive, annoying comments written in a distinct style and always against the same side?

I cannot understand why they are allowed in a forum like this. Not only "swear words" are offensive. Moderators, please, care your jewels here, and pay attention to general attitudes rather than sporadic "bad words".

Just my opinion, delete it if you consider it as inappropriate.

It will stay together but there are some people I would miss very much. Maybe - just maybe Lazarus most of all. He was here when I started and I want him to stay.

I decided to update this post.

There are many clever and helpful people here on SD.

A few are able to be virtuosos playing both the Spanish and the English "language pianos"

I don't know what happened but I hope Lazarus continues to do so.

Well, I believe in friendships, love and peace.

This is a great community for learning Spanish.

I have many friends here at SD and I cherrish every one of them.

As far as beliefs go, there are many different views, although their can be only one truth.

No sense fighting over one belief versus another belief. As I said before, you don't have to believe in what I believe in. This I said out of Love.

So, to sum up, I love everybody here and I do not, I do not have an ounce of hate for anybody. I am happy to hear that Fredbong is staying.

I am grateful for everybody here. And I hope we all stay together, eternally would be awesome.

I totally agree with you Heidi...before yesterday, I thought of SD as a very nice and friendly place to be - I have no ideal what happened, and I was totally in shock as everything unravelled....

....and so many people threatening to leave....it all made me very sad.

If we lose one member after yesterday, then it is waaaaay too many....I just hope that everyone just forgets the ugly things that were said to each other yesterday, and we can move on and be a family again.

It is everyone's great posts, and everyone helping each other that makes this site the great site that it is...we just CAN'T lose any members...

I completely agree Heidi and I am sincerely sorry if the manner in which I expressed my views on the matter of gay marriage had offended anyone. I am not apologisng for what I believe in but if I have not shown respect and Godly love to people in the manner in which I shared my views I am genuinely sorry

We need to keep this family and community atmosphere here and I am sure that we can discuss almost anything and share differing views if we respect each other's right to be different. We need a mutual respect here and I would like to see an end to some of the nasty comments made about people's faith We are not forcing to people to agree with us but simply sharing what we believe so no one need feel threatened by what we believe neither we nor our God supports the idea of forcing people to agree with us. I am not so much referring to the posts here but the comments section

By the way I do not hate anyone certainly not our dear Lazarus I have great respect for him and his great understanding and knowldge of Spanish and this site would be much porror for not having him here amongst us

Well, I said it in the Cafe and I guess i'll drop it here...

Well, been gone since Friday because I typically don't have time on my weekends to get on... but it seems all hell broke loose while I was gone.
