What is the difference between lamber and lamer? real academia espanola has lamber as a correct word

I would say from the R A E dictionary that they have little in common since lamber's meaning as lamer has fallen into disuse.

lamer=to lick

lamber seems to be false adulation, egregious flattery, or sycophany

The only way I would connect them now would be in phrases like "licking someone's boots" etc.
