Steward in a bar

Steward in a bar

A friend who used to live in Scotland, has hard time to remember a slang word Scottish people use to call a steward in a bar or a club waiting at the entrance.

Is there anyone who can help here? Also, how do you call it in Spanish?

I don't know about Scotland, but in the US we call that person a "bouncer". Our dictionary appears to have several words that could be used in Spanish: gorila, matón, sacabulla. I have no idea how accurate or widely used these are.

Yes that's it. It seems that not only is it used in Scotland, but it's used in the US too. Thank you. - ianta, Jun 25, 2011

it might be "Major Domo" though it strikes me that you are talking about two different job descriptions. Sommellieur (sic) means wine steward.

The word I was looking for is bouncer. Someone who is like a "guard". - ianta, Jun 25, 2011
