When I lived in Mexico as a little girl, If I was craving something I should have some because "se me rompe la yel". And I'm not sure if that is the correct spelling of yel.

The saying is se te rompe la hiel. Hiel or bilis means "bile", which is produced by your liver and is used for digestion.

Perhaps the saying stems from the fear that your digestive juices might break through your digestive tract/stomach if you allow them to flow without satisfying your cravings?

I think you are talking about "se te/me rompe la yel"

It is said for something you cannot wait to have/eat etc...
