Following the RAE links for sonda that coffeelate recommends you might also want to look at:

Cool pictures but I don't think the first two are scopes of any form. The first is a urinary cather and the second is a nasogastric feeding tube. The last one looks like an endoscope.. - MaryMcc, Jun 25, 2011

Scope is being used as a short form of some type of endoscope, arthroscope, laparascope, etc.. The ending corresponding to -scope in Spanish is -scopio.

I would say "sonda", like "hay que introducir una sonda en su cuerpo, durante la cirugía".
