I don't quite understand this subjunctive, so if someone can explain how they form that would be nice.

The imperfect subjunctive is formed by taking the "ellos/ellas" form of the preterite; if you know how to conjugate the latter, the imperfect subjunctive is a piece of cake.

The present subjunctive is irregular when the present indicative is irregular, generally sharing the same irregularity as the "yo" form of the indicative.

usually, irregulars don't have rules....so you would just have to learn them.
