Hola!

I'm so happy that you are making the first step towards becoming a Spanish speaker. You've chosen the right place to start.

First of all, I suggest going to the "Learn Spanish" tab or by clicking here. It's so important that you first start by doing lessons.

Also, if your budget allows, I suggest you check this book, this book, and this book. They have helped me tremendously. Amazon.com has an excellent selection of Spanish books. Try clicking here. This link has all the books in "Practice Makes Perfect" series. Those books are excellent.

Also, post here on the forum if you have any questions!

Best of luck.

Come to the website every day.

Drop into this forum and check out the questions and the answers that people post. Vote for the questions and answer that you like.

Try your hand at "word of the day" or "picture of the day," but don't use the translator or someone will yell at you.

Try to read a Spanish language newspaper online like El Pais.

Watch Spanish language TV.

Have lunch every week with a native Spanish speaker who is trying to learn English. Spend half of your time together speaking Spanish and half speaking English.

If you have an iPhone, download the spanishdict app. The vocabulary word game is fun and a good way to learn pronunciation and kill time when you are waiting for someone.

I see that you are fairly new to the forum. Have you watched this video? We should probably link to it more often than we do for new members.

Welcome video

Also, as you follow the above suggestions, don't be shy to ask your questions. Always show your attempt in Spanish, though. Then we will make suggestions and corrections.

For example: How do you say in Spanish "How are you?"

Your attempt might be: Cómo esta?

Our corrections might be: Always remember the upside down question mark to begin a Spanish question. ¿

Or esta needs an accent on the ¨a¨ because esta without the accent means another word in English.

¿Cómo está? - How are you?

There are other ways, too, to say How are you? and you will learn them here with us.

Welcome to the forum!
