If you could upload data to your brain...

If you could upload data to your brain...

A recent post got me thinking... If you could upload data to your brain, like plugging into a USB port (think about the "Matrix" movies), what two things would you want to know or know how to do?

For those of you who may have never seen the Matrix movies, the characters had a probe inserted into the back of their heads and had programs uploaded into their memory. The main character learned martial-arts fighting techniques in minutes. Another character needed to know how to fly a chopper and had the info quickly uploaded.

So, back to the question, what two programs would you want uploaded into your memory?

The connection is the easy part. The judicious selection of a first class database is where the work could become complex and demand sophisticated well thought out decisions.
.

Also wouldn't the upload create almost by definition, personality changes? I'm not saying that is a bad thing per se but it is something that would have to be taken into account because as the personality altered so the criteria for choosing the upload would change. That could well be a catch 22 conundrum! grin

Not enough is known about the brain to even start designing the connection. - lorenzo9, Jun 21, 2011
Interesting point, Bird. - danrivera, Jun 21, 2011
You're right, with knowledge, your opinions and outlook generally change. So depending on your first choice, your second may become obselete. Very interesting thought birdy =) - DJ_Huero, Jun 21, 2011
I know that Lorenzo, good point though but I was looking at the hypothesis that it's a solved problem and what if...;-) - lagartijaverde, Jun 21, 2011

Hmmm...this is a good question... I would just like to post that I am interested and will be shortly with a thought-through response. tongue wink

Update:

  1. I would like a the complete Spanish language (meaning all dialects/ modismos) uploaded to my brain. grin
  2. I would keep free in case of emergency. wink

I must add though... I would have to decline to having such installed to my brain. To me, learning gives us a reason to live... if you take that away, it could get chaotic or just plain ugly. downer

I look forward to it. :) - danrivera, Jun 21, 2011
Ok, so what do you think of that plan? - DJ_Huero, Jun 21, 2011
Hmm, I like the second one, Deejayy :) - Destroyed99, Jun 21, 2011
You never know what could happen. lol! - GuitarWarrior, Jun 21, 2011
I'm sure standard learning would still be in place, though the "shortcut" would leave the potential for less motivation to learn, rather than more. - danrivera, Jun 21, 2011
@Guitar Yup, have that backup slot to get out of danger. - DJ_Huero, Jun 21, 2011
@Dan yes indeed, but it's still a fun idea. great thread amigo - DJ_Huero, Jun 21, 2011
Jajaja! That gets my vote :) - GuitarWarrior, Jun 21, 2011

Wow if I could do that I would certainly up-load:

1 the capacity to be fluent in at least 5 languages - perhaps 7 lol which would include;

1) Spanish

2) French

3) Portuguese (Brazilian)

4) Italian

5) English

6) Swedish/ (or) Japanese

7) Chinese (Mandarin)

2 The ability to understand more about the human body Animal biology and related sciences Zoology and above all medicine

I would also like the ability or the facility to get rid of useless information that I had to learn at school like geography ie out of date worthless data about what each country produced. I may have simply forgotten it but I would have rather never had to learn it I have learnt more about geography from travelling to various countries.that absorbing this useless junk by listening to the geography teacher drone on/rabbit on lol

I would upload information from the entire reference section of Spanish Dict into my brain.

I would also upload information from every study site I use.

I'm greedy. I want more than just two things. I would keep uploading information until the USB port on the back of my head is overloaded, and my brain shorts out.

Good idea... i voted. =) - DJ_Huero, Jun 21, 2011
Fortunately, that's the only bug we have to work out. We need test dummies with spare brains to try out experiments until we have succesfully created a new design capable of downloading endless information. - GuitarWarrior, Jun 21, 2011
Yea, brain overload would be painful. - DJ_Huero, Jun 21, 2011
What would we do if such a device were to go into the wrong hands? - GuitarWarrior, Jun 21, 2011

Paint like Salvidor Dali, Rubens, or Rembrandt.

Play guitar like Paco de Lucia, John McLaughlin, Kenny Burrell, or Larry Coryell.

1) The entire Spanish language, so I could have the brain of a native Spanish speaker! That would be amazing

2) The entire Urdu language, so I could have the brain of a native Urdu speaker.

Edit: Instead of Urdu, maybe I would "install" a program so I could have the brain of a math genius

I would be one happy camper if we had USB ports in the back of our heads...smile

I'm going to make this real, everyone. Get ready to have USB ports in the back of your heads. smile Jajajaja!

Lol. Go for it! :-D - danrivera, Jun 21, 2011
FireWire? Better performance. Anyhow it would surely be wireless wouldn't it? - lagartijaverde, Jun 21, 2011
Wireless or eSATA. We still have a lot of "experimenting" ahead of us. - GuitarWarrior, Jun 21, 2011
