Voting for Thread Moderators (aka Correctors)

Question

Ok, so hopefully after sleeping on this one, I've still got the thought fresh enough in my head to suprise everyone. Anyways, as I mentioned I was thinking the other day after posting my thread about voting, so great points were tossed around in there but one stuck out to me because I had heard it before and thought it myself... "I'd like to vote for those making the corrections." Ok so that's an indirect quote because after browsing through the thread a couple of times I couldn't find who it was. Anyways, I believe I've come up with an idea to make this possible.

It hit me in one of the proofreading threads I dropped in on. The person had written something and asked for proofreading, then the correction was written in an answer. Then it hit me, with some practice and participation, we can change the way we do corrections (somewhat).

What would need to be done is, instead of writing the correction in a comment, we could utilize the "link" option, the "quote" option, and write the correction in an answer. This way, we're now able to show appreciation to our hardworking moderators who spend countless hours on here everyday making corrections so we can learn the right way. I'll post an example below and elaborate further if requested.

From there the person would go to there post (directly using the link) and make corrections/suggestions as needed and in result you can thank our faithful help here with a vote. So any questions, suggestions, modifications, or feedback?

I would love to hear from any/all moderators: Heidita, TomBurgos, Cogumela (even if she's not here at the moment), Mariana, fjfuentesh, Jen, and any I may have missed (there's a lot of subs lately)

Oh, well, I did think it might be a good idea, and I was very happy to gain some votes...I am in urgent need of some, but ....pesta already pointed out a glitch and danny another one.

What we can do...is vote for answers by the correctors (we can just find an older answer on the forum) ....especially those who should be in our "legendary list" by now for all they do on this site, like Tom or Julian (fjfuentesh) .

And me, poor thing...I never get any votes any more...::.sigh:::

I believe that, in theory, the idea has merit. Unfortunately, I see a potential problem in that the Answers page (where the most recent threads are listed) would be flooded with "correction" links. In my opinion, this compromise would not be worth the "correction vote" option.

However, I applaud you for your thinking efforts!

I mean post within that thread... like, if the mistake is in the Picture of the Day thread, post the correction within the Picture of the Day thread. - DJ_Huero, Jun 20, 2011

Okay, that would make more sense. It would still require a little more work on the part of the moderators and the correction posts could be confused with the original posts. However, it is better than what I had first understood it to be. - danrivera, Jun 20, 2011

The mods would need to make a comment on the original post about looking for the corrective post. It would need to be made abundantly clear that there is a correction needed or completed. - danrivera, Jun 20, 2011

I see that you have the link, but wouldn't it need to be the original poster that makes the correction? The mods make the suggestions (actual proper usage) and the original poster makes the correction to learn from the process. - danrivera, Jun 20, 2011

I hate to add obstacles to any noteworthy cause, but ....

Direct links are not very useful in long threads.

Did you ever notice how they work? A direct link includes the page url to a thread, with a 'bookmark' joined by the hash character '#', for example:

http://www.spanishdict.com/answers/195797/voting-for-thread-moderators-aka-correctors#a461820

The problem is when threads have more than 15 answers, the bookmark ('#a461820' in the above example) is often nowhere on the page, being past the first 15. This is a general flaw in the site design.

The threads we make for Picture-of-the-day, etc, are usually well over 15 answers long.
