Hello, is it possible to learn spanish using only the internet and not going to classes or signing up for paid courses? Has anyone here learnt spanish from scratch using just this site? And if so what level have you managed to get to?(can you have proper conversations etc) and how long has it taken you to reach this level using online resources only?

I am starting with N O spanish at all.

I have been learning Spanish since last August. I signed up to 2 separate evening school classes but left after just a few weeks because they were just rubbish! Lesson after lesson of saying "¿Cómo estás?" and "Me llamo Billy" then counting from 1 to 20 etc. I wasnt actually 'learning' anything - just repeating adhoc phrases.

I have done virtually all of my learning on line and via cd's that I bought. For me personally it is much easier learning on-line - especially on a site like this where you have so many really helpful Spanish speaking natives. You can learn at your own pace and arent tied to class times etc. The only problem I find is, obviously, you dont get so much verbal speaking. But when I get round to setting up skype hopefully that will change!

Although I would still class myself as a beginner I have a good understanding of the full grammatical structure of the language (ie all the verb tenses, moods etc) and can communicate using simple sentences. My next challenge is formulating more complex sentences and mastering those dreaded prepositions lol.

Its a long road, but each day I feel I've walked a few more yards!

Good luck!!

We not only say this we have proof for thiswink

We host skype chats for different levels. ON those chats I have seen people who coulnd't utter a word. Yesterday I met several of those people again who started off knowing nothing, like Greg and rikko....they not only speak now but they can understand a conversation perfectly .

I started learning Spanish in 2007 and have attended a variety of structured educational events. I blathered on and on about certain aspects of this experience in a blog post here: http://zanderworld.wordpress.com/2010/08/06/spanish-language-schools-with-an-emphasis-on-don-quijote/

This site has made all the difference in the world for me. The resources are all good, best on the net. The forum is a place to clear up your questions and have your own work corrected, and have some fun along the way. Learning here is not all work and no fun, read the posts and answer as you can, put your questions here and we will respond. We will all look forward to working with you in every way we can.
