Juan tambien venía conmigo

Estudie español por 3 años en un local colegio. Juan tambien venía conmigo para inicial los clases solamente.

I studied Spanish for 3 years at a local college (here in the UK, colleges are pre-university institutes and are post high schools). Juan also used to come too, only for the initial classes only.

I would say:

Juan vino conmigo, pero solo a las clases iniciales.

Also, colegio here means high school.

I thought colleges were private acadamies, such as Eton or Harrow. Do you have so many more years of schooling in England? If you have post-high school, it must be true, unless your "high schools" don't go as far as grade 12 (12 years of school starting with grade 1).

Doesn't estudie need a tilde on the e? I don't know if one says "local collegio" in Spanish, or "collegio local" (most adjectives follow the noun).

Your sentence about Juan is correct with the imperfect tense but I think "por" would be the right prep. but don't quote me on that.
