Is cantaloupe melón in spanish? I looked up cantalopa and it doesn't exist in real academia espanola

It is a french word. I'm an American living in Spain nearly 5 years. When I first came to Spain in 2011 no one knew what is was. Luckily I live close enough to France that I could cross the border & buy it there. Now several Spanish markets carry it. - stevensoncl, Jul 13, 2016
They either call it cantaloupe here or melĂłn cantaloupe. Still not so popular however because no one tries it. - stevensoncl, Jul 13, 2016

There are different kinds of melon, though.

Chevrolet, Ford, Cadillac. All those are cars, but to say Ford, it does not mean it means "car".

cantalupo or melón. It seems that it can be either.

melón...cantaloupe

according to the SD dictionary a melón can be a honeydew melon.
