Spanish Book Club
I'm wondering if anyone would like to join me in reading "los argonautas" written by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez.
It is a book you can view online for free either as an html page or in various other formats usable on nooks, kindles, etc. Page for all version of downloads here.
I don't know how many people would be interested, but this would be something we would read at bout a pace of one chapter a week. There are over 14,000 words in the first chapter; just to give you an idea of what would be in store. Every week we would discuss what happened in the last chapter in whatever language you feel comfortable talking in. This would help to make sure that we are actually able to comprehend the things we are translating.
If you don't have a kindle and you don't want to read an html, you can use firefox to read epub formats by downloading Epub Reader.
And for those who don't want to participate but would like the resource: Here is a link to Project Gutenberg's Spanish works. Most of these books are very old because books prior to, I think, 1923 are in the public domain. If an English copy is available they also offer the English version on the same page.
The very first meeting, which will be a discussion about chapter one, will be on June 24th, 2011 6:00P.M. central time in the SpanishDict Chatroom. Go to this website and choose your city if you aren't sure what time it will be for you.

Does anyone know of a way to get a Spanish dictionary loaded on to the Kindle so you can click a word and see he definition?
In order to use it, place it on your Kindle via USB or emailling it to your device. Go to “Home->Menu->Settings”, then “Menu->Change Primary Dictionary.” From that point, moving the cursor over a word will work like the dictionary used to with definitions, but with English translations of Spanish words.
You may not find every word you need, but at least it is a definite help!
I'd love to join you, but not sure how long I can keep up.
Anyway, I'll give it the old college try!
Now for my dumb question: would we be discussing it here, in chat, or another format?
Basically, I'm asking for a click-by-click description of your preferred discussion format. 
I'd like to do this, where will it be discussed each week and how far ahead are you now?

Amazon.com provides a review of a different book by this author, but not a review of Los argonautas. When the paperback copy was printed, it was 482 pages.
I was looking for something new to purchase on my kindle....might be a good idea as it helps my Spanish and I get to read a good book - thing is I'm only 15, so do you think I'd be able to catch up?!!!!!!

Edit: I should have said, I use kindle on my iPad. I tried your suggestion, Luciente, but it doesn't have the same menus the regular Kindle has. I'll keep looking and use a paper dictionary in the mean time.

I love this idea! I am a little slow though, so I'm not sure if I will be able to keep up. But I'm with territurtle...I'll give it the old "college-try" 
Ok I have downloaded the book onto my kindle. I have never used chat. Is it somewhere you type into or do you use a mic? I'll check out where thechat section is later, must go, plane to catch! Thanks

Ideally once we've gotten everyone who intends to participate we'll begin meeting on Fridays. I'm thinking 6 P.M. Central would be an acceptable time for you and I, if more members come and they are in timezones like Australia or something we'll deal with it when they join. We'll meet up in SpanishDict's Chat and we'll pick someone randomly to sum up what has happened in the last chapter. After that we'll discuss what we thought of the chapter.
