The Flag Dispute

What is all this about flagging and what not.......I know flagging is to mark a question as inappropriate................but that just gets the guy who made up the question get all hyped up and holds a grudge against you, .................which is not cool. I mean, i know we are a happy community, always willing to lend a hand, so why give a flag option?

Sorry if this sounds mean to you all, I do not mean it that way..... cheese cheese

You need to ask "Koalasan" she is somewhat of an expert in the finer arts

of not only "Farnarkling " but in "Olympic medal Flagging " It originated

from Medieval Flogging which sadly is no longer in vogue , it was much more fun

and infinitely less emotionally draining , bring back the Flog I say. rolleyes cool smile

The basic reason for flagging is to call the reply to the attention of a moderator for the reasons listed (to delete a thread containing improper language, spam, etc.) The controversial option from the beginning of using flags was the one for "poco clara o inexacta". I am glad to see that it is seldom used. Normally, if a reply is incorrect or needs revisions comments are left stating so and the reply is not flagged. Personally, I'd like to see them remove that option.

My question on this is. I know that at certain point, one has the ability of editing someones else's post. The edit and flag links are really close to each other...I am sure someone has hit the wrong link. smile

What about that one.

I might be wrong.

I would never dream of editing anybody's post, correct it in an answer, but never edit it, as one does not know what the person has in mind.

Accidental flagging is rare because just clicking the flag button is only one part of the process...you can back out before actually submitting the flag. - webdunce, Jun 23, 2011
However, should you accidentally flag someone (it is possible)...just leave a comment on that particular post letting everyone know you flagged it on accident. :-) - webdunce, Jun 23, 2011

Hi Blackfire

As Koala and Kiwi have said, only the administrators can see who has flagged a post. All flags are religiously inspected by the administrators. Any malicious flagging could result in a ban from the site.

As Koala says only the administrators will know who's done the flagging and you'll find that the need won't arise for anyone to flag the regular SD'ers who as you mention are only here to lend a hand, or learn themselves. But flagging will save others from having to look at inappropriate posts from undesirables or those from spammers, as the admin will remove them smile
