Témpanos de sangre
I am reading a book by Gabriel García Márquez (Crónica de una muerte anunciada), and I ran across the phrase "La cavidad abdominal estaba ocupada por grandes témpanos de sangre." I have always thought that "témpano" was like a chunk of ice, and I'm trying to figure out the context of "témpanos de sangre" here. Does this mean something like "splotches of cold blood"?

Most likely chunks of congealed blood.
Poetic license, and all that jazz...
témpano de hielo just switched the word "hielo" with "sangre".
I think it should be translated Blood gores!
