A man who can deal with the unexpected?
I have never heard this expression but would guess one of the following:
1). A guy who can take what life throws at him. (i.e. someone with patience and perseverance who can deal with the unexpected in life)
2). A guy who knows how to handle himself on the road (i.e. a good driver)
3). A guy who knows how to handle himself with the ladies (i.e. a good lover)
I think Izan is actually correct on more than one count... if this hombre can handle the variety of changes and challenges while driving down the road, then the same can be said of his outlook on life...just have to extrapolate the latter....
Same analogy can be used in baseball, with just about the same terminology... a pitcher may throw several straight balls to a particular batter, all of which may be relatively easy to hit back, but sneak in the occasional curve ball and how does the batter handle that pitch?
What came to mind almost immediately, which sort of ties into Izan's 3rd guess above, is a saying a co-worker once said to me about the ladies (slightly negative to the one uttering it): He used to say, whenever he would encounter a really attractive chica, "ella con tantas curvas y yo sin frenos." ¡Genial!

Es un hombre que sabe tomar las curvas
= He is a man that knows how to take the rough with the smooth
(ie: the hard things with the easy, that life throws at him)
This is my best guess for now lol
