What are some common greetings for letters or e-mails in Spanish?
I recently accepted an engineering job in South America, so I will need to send many e-mails, but I don´t know what the customary salutations are or if it´s customary to use salutations, for that matter.
Note from TomBurgos: I edited some typos and errors in punctuation. Remember we have English learners who might assume that's the proper way to write in English. Thanks a lot!

Here is a link that may help you.
The salutation will really depend on the person you are emailing and the level of familiarity with that person. I generally use Sr. XXX for someone I am not familiar with, but doesn't require formality. If formality is expected, Estimado, Licenciado, Ingeniero, etc. Amongst engineers, Ingeniero is quite a common salutation. If the email is very informal and someone with whom you know and have confidence, write the same way in English, with a simple Buenos Días or the person's name.
This was very helpful to me also. Thank you for the question.
This was helpful to me today to write a formal letter and I thought I might resuscitate it for others looking for the Spanish niceties to start and end a letter.
