Someone I am close to sent me "Estoy pendiente tuyo" as a sign off in his letter. I know what the words mean, but, the context? I am yours,,,waiting/pending?

Agreed, I would think it it was wrong,

Pendiente de ti is what we say in Spainwink

I guess, he wanted to say:

I am waiting for your answer

This could be one of those cases where one says something, and it turns out that millions of people in another country actually say that, but from what I know, the sentence is grammatically wrong. Instead of "Estoy pendiente de ti" (I'm keeping an eye on you / I am waiting for you), that "de ti" seems to have turned into a pronoun. As I said, grammatically speaking is just crazy, but you never know...

I personally have never heard such a thing in the south of Spain.

It seems quite an unusual word with the main meaning seeming to be 'pending' - right up to it meaning (used with estar) 'to be attentive to', 'or to take a keen interest in' etc.

I found this too which I thought you might find interesting for future reference:

Spanish 8 senses of the word pendiente:

ADJECTIVE

pendiente awaiting conclusion or confirmation, owed as a debt, not brought to a conclusion, still in doubt

NOUN
pendiente, an elevated geological formation, the property possessed by a line or surface that departs from the horizontal, degree of deviation from a horizontal plane, jewellery to ornament the ear

Maybe they were meant to be separate.

Estoy pendiente.

&

Tuyo (signature)

I'm just guessing though, do letters get finished with 'tuyo' like we might with

Yours Mary or whatever? Pretty outdated but I guess some people still do it.

Perhaps they meant to write "estoy pendiente a lo tuyo"

I'm waiting for your response?

I couldn't find estoy pendiente a lo tuyo online, but I did find pendiente a lo tuyo.
