What made you decide to start learning Spanish [or English]?

I started because of school --- you had to!! :D But I really began to enjoy it, and now I'm working towards becoming entirely fluent because it will allow me to travel to different Spanish-speaking countries. Also, it will be extremely helpful in numerous career choices.

How about you?

I learned a some Spanish in high school, (graduated 1979) and was never afraid to speak to people, even with my minimal knowledge of Spanish. That small knowledge allowed me to speak with a lovely lady from Colombia. She is now my fiance. She speaks about 40 words of English, but we have in-depth conversations on everything from religion to politics to family to health to what do you want for dinner, and don't forget to brush your teeth! JAJAJA. Everything that anyone in a relationship talks about. I now speak with her, and her 2 teenage daughters every day, and my Spanish has improved greatly. It has helps on my resume, and opens a lot of doors, both for jobs and to new friends from different cultures.

Exactly the same thing! I had to learn for school and I used this as a study tool. Now I use it for myself so I can travel the world one day and at least be able to communicate a little better than I would have(:

Because talking to the 6 other native English speakers in the village gets old.

This type of thread pops up a lot. Wonder why.

My professor once said, when talking about coordinates for kinematics, why do we call the initial position y-not? Because why not?

Doesn't make much sense in Spanish. Porque no? lol.

It is fun so I figure why not?

Course if it were a necessity for me it would be better, I might actually succeed if that were the case.
