How does a newcomer earn reputation?

How does a newcomer earn reputation?

The rules state that I can only earn reputation by achieving one of the following 4 things - Which I can't really do. 1) Are chosen as the best answer by someone else - As a beginner, I don't know enough spanish to answer anyone's questions.
2) Submit a phrasebook entry that is published - Again, as a beginner, I don't know enough spanish to submit a phrase.
3) Are voted up on a question or answer - Every question I need to know, has already been asked and answered - and its a waste of everyones time if I were to start asking questions that have already been answered
4) Vote for someone else's question or answer - But you actually need 15 reputation before you can vote on anything - so that rule doesn't help me.
Is there any other way a newcomer can earn reputation?

Hello WitchyLiones and Welcome to the SpanishDict forum grin

I appreciate that it will be more difficult for a beginner learning Spanish to gain reputation points than for many of us who joined up with SpanishDict with some previous knowledge of the language.( I began at a lower intermediate level)

However, I would encourage you to begin by listening to the Spanish teaching videos/videoclips which have been created for us by Paralee Whitmire, our on-line qualified Spanish teacher.and are completely free!

Once you have listened to all the first two series: Spanish1 and 2 you will probably have gained sufficient knowledge, understanding and hopefully confidence of the fundamentals of the language to enable you to answer basic questions presented by other people in the forum concerning: how to greet people, knowing how to ask the time and use simple expressions about the weather, and alot more besides. Some lessons about por v para and ser v estar usually take longer to grasp as well as lessons about the use of the pretereite (simple past) v the imperfect tenses but don't worry about those yet tongue wink Just take one step at a time and go at your own pace we are not in a race or competeition with each other wink smile LOL grin

Here is a direct link to the Spanish lessons:

I hope this helps grin

Witchy, welcome to the forum. I too was a newcomer to the site once and am still a beginner but look how many points I've accumulated. You are well on your way. One good thing to remember though, although Koalasan's answer was worthy of accepting, you should have waited at least until the end of the day. When an answer is accepted it shows checked on the main page so people tend to go right past it assuming it has already been answered. If you want more reps you need more exposure. Get the idea?wink En todo caso, soon you'll forget all about reps and you'll be addicted to the site like the rest of us. Have fun and happy learning!

Wow! What an introduction! Welcome!

Everybody was new here once, and I think many beginners. You made some very good points, but they just don't matter! All questions have NOT been asked, as you can see - there's a constant flow of questions on this very-alive forum.

Of course, search the forum before asking a question, since your answer may already be answered. If there's a thread that "almost" answers your question, you can post to that thread to explore a topic further. If none of that fits, post a new question!

See you around...

Well at this point in time, every question I go to ask has already been answered. But as a beginner, I am only asking beginners questions :) As I progress with my spanish, I'm sure I'll have lots questions to post :) Thankyou for your advice :) - WitchyLioness, Jun 7, 2011
