En cuanto + subjunctive v. indicative en el pasado

Estoy traduciendo esta frase en inglés al español, y tengo dudas sobre "llegara". ¿Debe de conjugarlo en el subjuntivo pasado o ponerlo en el indicativo pasado?
"She wanted you to contact her as soon as you arrived."
"Quería que se comunicara con ella en cuanto llegara."

As I understand it, llegara is correct, but it has nothing to do with the use of "en cuanto": the whole phrase "se comunicara con ella en cuanto llegara" should be in the imperfect subjunctive according to the sequence of tenses.
