"Del" Or "De" Usage

Hola! Let me give you my background...

Para un proyecto, my group and I had to create a city [the words in that lesson we were on were places/items you'd find in a library.] My group created the "City of Love".

Would it be "Ciudad de Amor" or "Ciudad del Amor"? I'm not saying City of the Love. However, amor is a masculine noun.

On my project, I ended up using "del'. Did I make the right choice?

No, in English you wouldn't say "of the Love", but in Spanish, the definite article is compulsory in many circumstances where in English it would be a mistake. For example, in most generalizations and abstract concepts:

El hielo flota. = Ice floats.

Prefiero la democracia a la anarquía. = I prefer democracy to anarchy.

Me gusta el queso. = I like cheese.

Ciudad de amor means it is made out of love

Ciudad del amor means that love is everywhere.

Hope it helps.
