Despacio y lento

What is the difference between despacio, slow and lento, slow? Can they be used interchageably or are they used differently depending on the context of the sentence? Such as using slow to mean dim witted, or slow to mean not fast, or calming down, etc. Gracias por la ayuda.

Despacio is an adverb (slowly) and lento is an adjective (slow), so they are not interchangeable. However, you could interchange despacio with lentamente, which is the adverbial form of lento.

Notice that the definiton of despacio uses the terms lentamente y lentitud, but the defintion of lento does not use despacio in its definitions. I would not say that they are interchangeable except in certain contexts. I'm not sure that either can mean slow as in dim witted. (torpe en comprender)

despacio

lento
