Hola !

I've asked about this before but didn't get any good answer.

In Spain do people there pronounce 'j' as H or Kh ( H with the throat sound). Like here on this website I hear, for example, Trabajar as both Trabahar and Trabakhar, the same goes for 'Naranja' and 'Enojado' Which pronunciation is more common is Spain?

Gracias.

Even in coastal Ecuador it is a lot like the American "h" sound. - lorenzo9, Jun 3, 2011

I'm native from México and I just can say that the "j" pronunciation is always the same... it doesn't matter the word you want to pronounce the "j" is always the same.

I hope this really helps. cheese

The gutteralness (is that a word???) depends on region much more than the word and even then there is variation from person to person.

Does everyone in your neighborhood whistle the same way?

I think this was notation, kind of like the difference between how Chinese people pronounce Peking and Beijing. - lorenzo9, Jun 3, 2011
ha ha I thought that this was a common expression. Maybe it's a kiwi thing. - teasip, Jun 4, 2011
