I can only find these kind of meanings:
horrifying; spine-chilling, hair-raising etc
but could estremecedor be translated as scathing?

Isn't scathing more like cruel and harming? My Collins translates it as mordaz.

NO, I would certainly not use it that way, scathing, new word for me
estremecerse is to shudder , so any of the above are perfect.
