The name Jose, is quite popular, apparently on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Is it used in other parts.

I do mean Jose, as opposed to José.

Is this the same guy that they sing about in the American National Anthem:

"Jose can you see by the dawn's early light..." ?

I have a cousin named José Miguel Hernández. Some people call him José Miguel and others call him Jose (JOse). But the name José is spelled with an accent on the e.

Do native speakers call him Jose, or English speakers who don't know what his name really is? - afowen, Jun 2, 2011

That may be a spelling to faciitate printing. Read this Wiki article that uses the name José and Jose [Cuervo] indiscriminately.

José Cuervo

In 1900, José Cuervo Labastida decided to brand the tequila as José Cuervo.

So it seems that Jose Cuervo is actually José Cuervo. I understand how non-native Spanish speakers would pronounce José 'Jose'. I'm talking about native Spanish speakers with the name Jose. - afowen, Jun 2, 2011

Yes I know a lot. I just finished teaching in Tucson, Arizona. I had one class where there were 3 Jose's in it.

Jose Cuervo, he was a friend of mine. Actually, he wasn't that good to me.

Here's a song from the old days.
