Nice ways to say ''Butt''

Nice ways to say ''Butt''

Ok, so before everyone freaks out, I was caught in a conversation the other day talking about a medical issue with my girlfriend's parents, and I needed to say "bottom" (that being the nicest I can think of in English) as in someone's butt... but I certainly wasn't going to say ''culo'' or ''culito'' because as far as I understand it's never a proper term to use. So please, can y'all help me out (and probably many others) with some words that are appropriate for various situations.

Please state what audiences (work, family, friends, etc...) it's appropriate for, and as well please include English & Spanish translation.

Thanks,

DJ ((( d(-_-)b )))

You can also say "Las pompas," (anywhere and quite benign), "Las pompis" (for children), "La parte posterior" (anywhere and sounds a bit more "grown up" than the first two, but still slightly humorous).

muchas gracias para tu repuesta Julian... very enlightening. =) - DJ_Huero, Jun 1, 2011
I've found that with the group I'm talking with (majority Mexicans in this case) "pompis" is the nicest way to say it. Thanks Julian! - DJ_Huero, Jun 24, 2011
Es " el ponpis" in Spain's mother's way. "Los" means several, and none has several buts. - igual2, Mar 7, 2013

Nalgas (buttocks) or trasero (rear end, backside) get the idea across.

You are right that culo and culito should not be used in polite company.

Ok, so nalgas is proper? I've always percieved it as somewhat slang... - DJ_Huero, Jun 1, 2011
Nalga literally means buttock. It's in the D R A E, so it's not slang. La Wikipedia even uses it, and who can you trust if not Wikipedia? - KevinB, Jun 1, 2011
Jaja... ok, cool.. thanks Kevin. =) - DJ_Huero, Jun 1, 2011
Well it sounds like culo is slang. that's the word I heard for it in LA. - amykay, Jun 1, 2011
Yes culo is pretty much @$$. lol... I hope it's ok to put it like that... - DJ_Huero, Jun 1, 2011

En el diccionario de la RAE jamás encontrarás tal disparate. "Buttocks" son "cachas". Y en el diccionario de la RAE, sólo las navajas lo tienen. - igual2, Mar 7, 2013

Pompis like "mi" Julian says, is actually often used here in Spain, even doctors say that.

Actually

¡Quédarse en pompas" = to strip

However, I would suggest trasero or maybe , very elegant:

el sitio donde la espalda pierde su nombreraspberry
