The Chinese name James is exactly how the Bible character James (Matthew 4:21; compare an English Bible with a Chinese Bible) is called in China.

Below is a site where you can try to find an equivant name in another language, but it is only good for names that have names with common roots in other languages. Basically, your name is what it is in your language and should not be translated.

For example: if you enter James into the search box and select Spanish as your destination language you will get:

  • DIDACUS m Medieval Spanish
  • DIEGO m Spanish
  • JACOBO m Spanish
  • JAIME (1) m Spanish, Portuguese
  • SANTIAGO m Spanish, Portuguese
  • YAGO m Spanish

That only works because Spanish and English have some common roots for names. I doubt that James has an equivalent in Chinese. Your name will be the same in Spanish as in English, but due to different pronunciation of the letters it may not be pronounced the same until you explain how it sounds in English.

I imagine James does have an equivalent in Chinese, as would any name that's in the Bible. Christianity has spread so so far, despite my best efforts ;) (I kid I kid! I have no problems with it!) - rabbitwho, Jun 1, 2011
