Best word for 'glasses' or 'sunglasses'?

Question

We were just shopping and I struck up a tiny conversation in Spanish. Yay me!

Anyway, I was talking about 'anteojos de sol' and he told me to use 'lentes de sol' and 'lentes' for glasses.

¿Cuál es mejor?

Anteojos and lentes are the common words In the north of México, We do hear "Gafas" but rarely.

Tosh, as you're off to Spain, gafas and gafas de sol are the usual things.

My venezuelan teacher says anteojos and we all understand lentes.

the right word is anteojos. "lente" is just the glass. anteojo is the hole structure

I'm originally from Florida (Cuban parents) and you would often hear "espejuelos" for glasses and "espejuelos de sol" for sunglasses.
