Possibly "cuije?" But the explanation they give doesn't sound like it would mean "hillbilly." More like low-income workers, perhaps? No idea.

I found these synonims:

campesino, labriego, labrador, granjero, agricultor, ranchero (in México), aldeano, pueblerino, provinciano, paisano, natural, lugareño, rústico.

I still remember the fantastic TV show called The Beverly Hillbillies, broadcasted in Mexico as Los Beverly Ricos.

In Puerto Rico we use "jíbaros" (which depending on who you talk to, is either a pejorative term or a symbol of national pride) , and the more standard "campesino" ('del campo").

We have diferents ways to referring to people who dwelling out of the city.

The closest I have found is 'paleto' since it is decidedly pejorative which is the case with the term 'hillbilly'. Terms such as 'campesino' or in this part of the world (Sur de la Florida) 'guajira' are typically either neutral or even used with affection.

Welcome to SD - Why did you dig up this old thread? Much better would be to create a new one. - ian-hill, Nov 16, 2015

This is what a Spanish speaker called some small children who were running around outside in diapers only; no other clothes or shoes. They were also dirty and had runny noses. The word they used was pronounced Kwee-his, and I am looking for how to spell Kwee-his in Spanish.

It seems that qintar77 is on the right track. Did you hear this word spoken in the northwestern part of Mexico? - TontoMago, Nov 16, 2015

A "hillbilly", by definition, is a term referring to certain people who dwell in rural, mountainous areas of the United States.

But I have no idea what a "kwee-his" is.

Please add some thing to your question as it has no sense in spanish in its current state. Where did this message come from? What country did it come from?
