How do you say "to express yourself"?

I'm not sure if there's a certain phrase for this in spanish, but I need the closest thing to this phrase as possible. The closest i got in the translator was "para expresarse" but that doesn't really make sense in my context... Any ideas guys?

Edit: As in "How you choose to express yourself."

¡Por Favor y Gracias! smile

Sabor, it is recognized.

expresar. (De expreso, claro). 1. tr. Manifestar con palabras, miradas o gestos lo que se quiere dar a entender. 2. tr. Dicho de un artista: Manifestar con viveza y exactitud los afectos propios del caso. 3. prnl. Darse a entender por medio de la palabra. Antonio se expresa bien.

Is my issue even valid anymore..? Or is everyone just going to argue on my question..? - Chicadezapatos, May 29, 2011
That's the way it is sometimes :) - Sabor, May 29, 2011
Exprésate is correct. And DRAE by the way is Diccionario de la Real Academia Española. - Deanski, May 29, 2011

I got this result

Aviso La palabra expresarse no está en el Diccionario.

That's because you searched under expresarse. But check my answer again. "prnl" means pronominal. That's expresar + se = expresarse. - Deanski, May 29, 2011
Looks like they list only the infinitive, & just put "prnl" if it has a pronominal form. - Deanski, May 29, 2011
Thank you Deanski! - Sabor, May 29, 2011

The Royal Spanish Academy (Spanish: Real Academia Española, RAE) is the official royal institution responsible for regulating the Spanish language. It is based in Madrid, Spain, but is affiliated with national language academies in twenty-one other hispanophone (Spanish-speaking) nations through the Association of Spanish Language Academies.

The RAE is a major publisher of dictionaries and grammars, and has a formal procedure for admitting words to its publications. Its website includes an online dictionary and other resources, all in Spanish. Its most famous publication is the Diccionario de la lengua española de la Real Academia Española (Dictionary of the Spanish Language of the Royal Spanish Academy), the "DRAE".

Expresarse is not recognized by the DRAE. Expresar is. Chica you should tell us what the context is.

expresar (opinion, emotion)

to express oneself -> expresarse

Do you need it in the imperative form? ¡Exprésate!

expresarse is the infinitive.alt text

Hola Chica.

The imperative form listed here probably is not what you are looking for. In the future you need to be sure to give more context because cutting off a sentence like that changes the meaning.

Express yourself! Is a command, also known as an imperative. In Spanish this changes the way you would speak it. However your question is not asking for how to command someone to express themselves, but rather asking how they express themselves.

Exprésate means you're telling someone to express.

I'm not fluent and my translations can't be trusted, but to say your sentence I would say:

Cómo decides expresarte. - How you decide to express yourself.

I would suggest you un-accept any answers given so far and clarify what you meant so that someone more fluent can give you a proper translation. Jeezle probably could give you the proper translation if she knew what you were asking for.
