A mediados de vs en medio de

They both mean, in the middle right?

But A mediados de is for a time, and en medio de is for something else? I don't get it, there was a tiny thread on Wordreference about it but it didn't shed much light on the differences.

Gracias.

"A mediados de los años noventa" = In the mid-nineties "A mediados del siglo XX"- In the middle of the twentieth century

"En medio de la calle" In the middle of the street

"In the middle of a test"= En medio de una prueba

Yes that's the one I found. It's terrible, not enough examples, not enough info. - jeezzle, May 29, 2011
