You can't say away here, right?

Something like ""no mires hacia otro lado"

is good for it, is this the best way?

Gracias

Literally, this translates to "Don't avert your gaze." - gintar77, May 28, 2011

"No mires hacia otro lado"

Pues sí, es mejor lo otro, pero eso se puede decir.

Ok so the phrase "no apartes la mirada" is seeing some love. What about "No mires hacia otro lado" nobody likes that? Everybody agrees it means "Don't look away?" Gracias.

The thing is that "Don't look away" evokes very specific situations, while "No mires hacia otro lado" is quite generic. - Oramasdude, May 28, 2011
'No apartes la mirada' is more idiomatic. - Oramasdude, May 28, 2011
OK then, but they both mean it, but you think no apartes la mirada is the more accepted way for everday conversation? Gracias. - jeezzle, May 28, 2011
"No mires hacia otro lado" I think translates more to "Don't look in another direction." That sounds strange to my ear in English even. - gintar77, May 29, 2011
Well if there is one thing Lazarus has taught me it's, don't let the English translation fool you, so I never pay any attention to it, I just say, hey thats how it is said in Spanish, I will tell you though, that - jeezzle, May 29, 2011
No mires hacia otro lado has 40,000 hits on google and only 20,000 for no apartes la mirada. - jeezzle, May 29, 2011
Of course I have no idea of how it sounds in Spanish, since I am still in the process of learning. I have to wait to Friday to ask Maria how it sounds, or else ask here. - jeezzle, May 29, 2011
You could very well be right. What sounds strange to one person could sound normal to another. There is seldom only one way of conveying a meaning. - gintar77, May 29, 2011
When you read some of the hits for "no mires hacia otro lado", it seems to mean "don't look the other way", which is slightly different from "don't look away". - lorenzo9, May 29, 2011
