Explanación de explanada
Ok so explanación can mean "leveling" in addition to explanation.
And explanada means "area of flat or level ground"
Would I say "hay una explanada fuera de mi casa" or something like that?
What is the root word there, why level, why flat, why leveling?
Gracias.

"explanar" - to level the ground, to grade
I've never heard "explanación" meaning "explanation" ("explicación" is what I hear), but - who knows - it's certainly possible that in Spanglish this is commonly used.
For the root, look at a verb you are familiar with, "to plane" (To make smooth). "Explanada" (something having been planed).
