How do you say you should know.

I want it for my word of the day sentence.

Thanks.

Here's more...

Deber means to "owe"... but when you conjugate it and then put an infinitive, it means "you should" or "you must".

Debes comer - you should eat

Debo dormir - I should sleep.

Take it from there. smile

Well Maria, don't you think you should do the research first? I mean, "Word of the day" is an exercise.

I think many of us struggle with the distinction between the words would, could, should and must. At least I do. I wasn't looking for the easy way out. - Maria-Russell, May 27, 2011

In these situations I would used the conditional tense. "Debes saber" - "You must know". "Deberías saber" - "You should know".

Deber (conjugated) + infinitive = you should (something).

I had the rest, but then saw Yeser007's post. wink

good tosh, I screwed up and said to conjugate saber by mistake, but then that is how we learn. - Yeser007, May 27, 2011
Definitely! I "learn" everyday! LOL. I gave a bit more below. - Tosh, May 27, 2011
I have the impression that María wants to learn, too - Sabor, May 27, 2011
I do too S but are we next going to tell her to use the translator? - Yeser007, May 27, 2011

Good question, Maria. Just fill out this form in triplicate in order to justify your need to know this information so we can determine your eligibility for the answer. smile

In many cases, it would be "Deberías saber" (tú form...conditional...but there are shades of meaning to our should that might get translated differently...but I am not qualified to give solid advice on that).

And, it is even more likely to be "deberías saberlo"... :D

"You should know" has more than one meaning in English. . .
