A phrase in Castellano
I went to this website link text and found the following text.
una obra adictiva y pasional sobre los pasadizos de la memoria y el embrujo de los libros ...no dejes que te la cuenten
Ive got an addictive and passionate work about the /passages/corridors of memory and the spell/enchantment/magic of books ................do not let them tell it
Could a native speaker tell me how the translation looks in English? I'm not happy with this phrase:
no dejes que te la cuenten
What's the intention here? Is it something like don't miss being told it?
Thanks for any help

Could it mean "don't leave them to tell you about it", in other words "you must read it for yourself"?
no dejes que te la cuenten
Literal translation does not work here![]()
this means: You MUST read this for yourself![]()
Don't let them tell you about it, so you experience it without any influence, unbiassedly. The rest of the translation sounds pretty good.
HI birdy, please accept sally, her answer was given before mine, her Spanish is just out of this world![]()
Don't let them tell you about it..... you must read it for yoursel
Yeah, I think it's something like that but the phrase is nagging at me. There's something odd about the phrasing of it.
Thanks for your answers by the way.
